LinkedIn Learning will be available to all University of Lynchburg students, faculty, and staff at no cost beginning this fall.
LinkedIn Learning — formerly Lynda.com — is an online training resource with a digital library of more than 6,000 courses covering a wide range of technical, business, software, and creative topics.
Those online courses and videos are “beneficial to anyone’s professional and personal development,” said Jay Proffitt, director of the Teaching and Learning Center and online instructional design.
In addition to offering virtually any topic, LinkedIn Learning lets users learn at their own pace, as courses can be watched any time, on any device, Proffitt added.
“Faculty can also select LinkedIn Learning courses and videos to reinforce their course content and help students develop specific personal and technical skills that will help them be successful in their chosen career path,” Proffitt said.
On the staff side, supervisors and their teams may use LinkedIn Learning to create targeted development plans for individual employees to help advance their careers. It’s a key area President Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar has been working on since she arrived in August 2020.
“Leadership and professional development are crucial not just for our students, but also for our faculty and staff,” Morrison-Shetlar said. “I want everyone to have opportunities for growth on a regular basis and when they need it. LinkedIn Learning is an amazing resource to support that growth. Explore the resources — I know you will be pleased with the depth and breadth of offerings!”
Proffitt agrees.

Getting started
- To get started, simply log in through the University of Lynchburg LinkedIn Learning portal.
- Watch an entire course or individual videos — some are as short as 4 or 5 minutes.
- Bookmark courses that suit your interests and keep track of the courses you have taken.
- Refine or develop your professional skills, learn new software, and explore other areas as you plan your career growth.
- Receive a certificate when you complete a course.
