The subject matter and themes found in the art of all cultures and all ages often deal with explicit and/or abstract ideas and images that some individuals may find difficult or offensive. Works of art selected for and/or included in exhibitions display significant artistic merit and academic integrity. Exhibitions and associated discussions are frequently quite forthright and challenging, as the content is expressive of diverse social, cultural, religious, and/or individual values.

Membership and FAQs

Join the Friends of the Daura Museum of Art!

We are always touched by the way visitors to the Museum respond to our exhibitions and programs. But in order to continue our level of excellence in exhibitions, expand our collections, and improve our educational programs, we need the constant and generous support of Friends like you. Your support makes a tremendous difference every day at the Daura Museum.

Exhibition expenses, including loan fees, insurance and transportation, are greater than ever, and special event and program costs are constantly mounting. By joining the Friends of the Daura Museum, you have the satisfaction of knowing you are helping us achieve our goal of providing great exhibitions and programs for all our constituents – students, alumni, the residents of Central Virginia – and keeping the vitality of the arts in Lynchburg and beyond. Contributions of all sizes help us better serve our constituents.

More Ways to Help

We value your generous support and continued engagement and suggest some more ways you can help us. If your employer makes matching gifts, contact your human resources director. To discuss facility rental or the donation of works of art or artifacts, contact the Director. And most importantly: bring your friends to exhibitions and events (and ask them to join the Friends); volunteer as a gallery attendant or docent for educational tours and programs; tell us about people who may want to donate art that fits within the parameters of our collections policy; introduce us to people you know in corporations and foundations, or who simply want to support the arts. And be a voice for the Daura Museum in your community.
