Awards
Outstanding Communication Studies majors are recognized at the University of Lynchburg Academic Awards Banquet held each year in April. Based upon their academic achievement, students are selected by the faculty for the following awards:
- The Rex Mix Award in Communication Studies
- The Electronic Media Award
- The Esther Cutler Thomas Outstanding Student in Speech Communication Award
- The Woody Greenberg Award in Public Relations/Journalism
Honors
To be considered for honors at commencement, a senior must complete a research paper and defend it before a committee of faculty members.
The College then confers degrees with designation of:
- Highest honors
- High honors
- Honors
S.U.R.F. Student Undergraduate Research Forum
Hosted each year by LC, this event brings together undergraduate students from colleges in the region to present original undergraduate research. The students’ original research and oral presentations are evaluated by a panel of judges and awards are given. The students gain valuable experience in doing research and get insight into the possibility of pursuing their research interests in graduate school.
Student Scholar Showcase
The Student Scholar Showcase highlights the creative, scholarly, and research achievements of LC students in a variety of disciplines through presentations that include scholarly papers, creative writing projects, and service learning projects.
The Ethics Bowl
Sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the Ethics Bowl hosts teams of students from member colleges for a 2-day event to debate issues relating to war and ethics.
