Music Education Degree (BA)

Our program is comprehensive and designed to cover a wide array of topics, including music theory, history, composition, and performance.
You can expect to receive specialized training in pedagogy and instructional strategies, which will prepare you to create engaging and effective learning experiences for students with diverse learning needs. Our program also includes field placements to provide you with practical experiences in real-world teaching environments.
To cater to your unique interests and career goals, our program offers specialized emphases that allow you to tailor your studies. This means that you can graduate with a music education degree that aligns with your goals, making a meaningful impact in the lives of your students and contributing to the vibrant field of music education. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a license to teach pre-K-12.
The music education major offers two emphases:
As a Lynchburg music education major, you’ll:
- Master teaching strategies tailored for pre-K-12 music classrooms, including curriculum design and assessment techniques.
- Develop your musical talents through solo or group ensemble performances and courses in harmony, and advanced aural skills.
- Gain hands-on experience through field placements in both elementary and secondary school settings, culminating in a comprehensive student teaching experience.
- Learn the art of conducting and rehearsal techniques to lead instrumental or vocal ensembles effectively.
