The annual Student Scholar Showcase provides students with an opportunity to present their research, analytical, creative, or experiential learning projects to the campus community.
Student projects may include scholarly papers, creative writing projects, scientific or historical research projects, performing arts projects, etc., and may be presented in various formats. Presenters are encouraged to consult with their faculty mentor(s) regarding the appropriate type of presentation for their submission. Project guidelines include the following:
- Oral Presentations: Oral presentations may come from any discipline and are 15 minutes long. Discussion topics generally cover the student presenter’s original research, critical analysis, fieldwork, service learning experience, etc.
- Poster Presentations: Poster presentations may come from any discipline. Posters may be presented digitally and/or printed and displayed physically. All participants are encouraged to present a digital poster, but if the physical format is preferred, it is the responsibility of the individual presenter to undertake the printing.
- Creative Presentations: Creative presentations may include musical and theatrical performances, lecture recitals, readings, visual art shows, etc., and are 15 minutes long. Creative presentations generally include students from creative writing and the visual and performing arts but may include those from other disciplines.
- Virtual Presentations: Student researchers who are not able to present on campus may submit a video recording or digital file of their submission in any of the above categories, which will be uploaded and accessible via the Digital Showcase platform. Graduate and postgraduate students in online programs are especially encouraged to participate virtually.
Are you doing human subject research? Before presenting your results, ensure you’ve been approved by the University of Lynchburg Institutional Review Board (IRB).
