Dr. Frederick Douglass Opie is a professor of history and foodways at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He is the author of several books, including “Southern Food and Civil Rights: Feeding the Revolution,” “Hog and Hominy: Soul Food from Africa to America,” and “Zora Neale Hurston on Florida Food: Recipes, Remedies & Simple Pleasures.” His lecture examines the historical relationship between food, drink, and politics, and regional differences across the United States.
