The Zaidee Creel Williams Memorial Lecture will be given by Dr. Laura Anderson and titled “When Religion Hurts You: Healing from Religious Trauma and the Impact of High Control Religion.”
Anderson’s lecture will explore how individuals can heal after leaving high-demand, high-control religious communities. She will draw on clinical research, stories from clients, and her own experience to show how survivors of religious trauma, adverse religious experiences (AREs), faith deconstruction, cults, spiritual abuse, and leaving high-demand/high-control systems can receive religious trauma-informed support and resources.
As a licensed psychotherapist, trauma resolution coach, religious trauma consultant, speaker, author, and educator, Anderson has dedicated herself to helping survivors of religious trauma and those who support them.
