High School Requirements
  • High school GPA of 3.5
Undergraduate Progression Requirements
  • Enroll at the University of Lynchburg as a full-time student.
  • Remain continuously enrolled on a full-time basis.
  • Complete your bachelor’s degree within four years.
  • To ensure successful completion of DPT program coursework by the time of application/matriculation, meet annually with the advising coordinator for pre-health student initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed the following GPA benchmarks:
    • Maintain a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 each semester.
    • Maintain a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 by the end of your junior year and throughout the remainder of your undergraduate degree.
    • Maintain a minimum science and math prerequisite GPA of 3.3 by the end of your junior year and throughout the remainder of your undergraduate coursework.
DPT Requirements in the DPT Graduate Pathway:
  • Complete an interview with a DPT faculty member during your sophomore year.
    • This will be scheduled by the DPT admissions coordinator once you have signed the annual intent to return form.
    • Successfully scheduling and completing the interview will fulfill the requirement to complete an interview during your application year.
  • Notify the DPT admissions coordinator of your intent to apply to the program by Oct. 15 of the application year.
  • Apply for admission through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Services by Nov. 15 of the application year.
  • Affirm that you can fulfill the Technical Standards and Essential Functions required by the program.
  • At the time of application, have no more than three outstanding prerequisite courses  (in-progress courses do not count as outstanding).
  • Complete the Graduate Record Examination and submit official scores to PTCAS.
  • In addition, submit two letters of recommendation:
    • One letter must be from a licensed physical therapist you have performed observations under.
    • One letter must be from a professor or academic professional who can speak to your classroom performance.
  • Complete a minimum of 80 verified observation hours with a licensed physical therapist.
  • Complete all DPT program prerequisites, application requirements, and admissions process requirements.

If a student fulfills the Undergraduate Progression Requirements and DPT Requirements in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Graduate Pathway, they will be guaranteed a reserved place in the applied-for cohort.

However, if a student fails to fulfill any of the above-stated requirements, they will be dismissed from the graduate pathway. In such a case, the student is still eligible to apply for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program through the general application pool.
