Heritage Green Assisted Living Gerontology Award

The Heritage Green Assisted Living Gerontology Award, provided by an endowment from Heritage Green Assisted Living Communities located in Forest, Virginia, is given to a University of Lynchburg student whose achievements exemplify Heritage Green’s commitment toward a greater understanding of aging and the involvement of college students in gerontology. Winners receive a $250 award and certificate of recognition. The purpose of this annual award is to: 

  • Recognize a University of Lynchburg student who has done outstanding work in gerontology. 
  • Promote research, classroom activities, community service, service learning, and fieldwork involving the aging population. 

Any undergraduate/graduate University of Lynchburg student currently enrolled is eligible if they meet all three of the following requirements: 

  • They have participated in at least three volunteer/service learning activities with older adults (memory walk, food drive, Bonner Leader Program, off-campus activity, etc.), have at least eight community service/volunteer hours working with older adults, or have conducted a research project directly with older adults. 
  • They have completed these eligibility requirements during the Summer 2018, Fall 2018, and/or Spring 2019 semesters. 
  • They have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
