SHAPE America honors LC health and physical education student
The Society of Health and Physical Educators has selected Morgan Singer ’16 as a Major of the Year, an annual award that recognizes outstanding undergraduate students. She will receive the award at the national SHAPE America Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in April. Morgan is currently student-teaching in Lynchburg-area public schools.
Professional group names Kari Hampton for statewide health educator award
Kari Hampton, a health and physical education professor at Lynchburg College, has been named the 2015 College/University Health Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. The annual award recognizes faculty members in Virginia who demonstrate effective teaching, emphasizes the importance of physical fitness, and serves as a positive role model for students.

Dr. Guynes named health education professional of the year
Dr. Charlotte Guynes, professor of health promotion, received the College/University Health Education Professional of the Year Award from the Southern District AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), which covers 17 states from Texas to Virginia.
Athletic director to retire
After 35 years at Lynchburg College, Dr. Jack Toms ’69 announced that he will retire this summer having served 26 years as the school’s athletic director.
