North-South All Star
Former women’s lacrosse attack Lesley Buckingham scored three times in the North-South Senior All-Star Game after concluding her storied Hornet career in early May.
Buckingham, the program’s leading career goal and point scorer, competed Saturday, June 16 at the IWLCA/Under Armor Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game at the United Sports Training Center.
Centra donates ECG machines
Lynchburg College recently had two electrocardiogram (ECG) machines donated by the Cardiovascular Group of the Centra Stroobants Heart Center given in memory of freshman Adam Seymour, who tried out for the Hornet men’s soccer team last fall.
Player of the Year
Junior midfielder Shelly Milks has added All-State Field Hockey Division Player of the Year to her resume.
Milks was earlier named a 2011 First-Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and also the All-South Region Player of the Year.
Athletic trainers to be honored
Dr. Patricia Aronson will be inducted into the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association (VATA) Hall of Fame in January and Dr. Debbie Bradney will be named Educator of the Year.
Two students and three faculty members will also be presenting at the annual meeting, to be held Jan.
Alumna named women’s basketball coach
Lynchburg College director of athletics Dr. Jack Toms ’69 announced Monday that former LC standout Abby Pyzik ’04 will return to the College as the head women’s basketball coach.
Pyzik has assisted at neighboring Washington & Lee University the last two seasons.
Screening athletes for heart risk
The College has screened 470 athletes this year for heart risk thanks to two electrocardiogram (ECG) machines donated to LC by the Cardiovascular Group of the CENTRA Stroobants Heart Center.
The machines were donated in memory of LC freshman Adam Seymour, whose heart failed less than an hour into the first men’s soccer practice of the 2010-11 season.
