Emergency Report
Emergency Assistance:
In a health or safety emergency, immediately contact Campus Safety and Security (434.544.5555) and/or local emergency services (911).
Non-emergency Report
To address and resolve concerns or problematic behaviors as quickly as possible, students are encouraged to report incidents promptly to the University office responsible for overseeing the area of concern. Listed below are examples of the University’s non-emergency incident-reporting resources.
Academic Integrity Concern:
An Honor Code concern, such as plagiarism or cheating, can be reported to the instructor of the course or to the Office of Community Expectations and Restorative Practices.
Bias Incident:
A human rights-related incident (bias, discrimination, verbal abuse, etc.) can be reported through the Bias Incident Reporting Form.
Concern for a Student’s Wellbeing (non-emergency):
Complete the Student of Concern Referral form, which includes an option to report anonymously, or contact Case Management.
Crime on Campus (non-emergency):
Report crime on campus by contacting Campus Safety and Security (available 24 hours daily). Reports can also be made using the LiveSafe app, which includes an option to report anonymously.
Honor and Student Conduct Codes Violations:
An alleged violation of the Honor Code or of the Student Conduct Code can be reported to Campus Safety and Security (available 24 hours daily). Questions about the Honor and Student Conduct Codes, including disciplinary procedures and alternative dispute resolution, can be directed to the Office of Community Expectations and Restorative Practices.
Interpersonal Misconduct (non-emergency):
Students can obtain confidential support services at the following locations on campus:
A report of interpersonal misconduct (dating violence, domestic violence, sexual misconduct, stalking) can be made by using this form.
The University’s Interpersonal Misconduct Policy includes additional information about resources available on and off campus, as well as detailed procedures for resolving complaints of prohibited conduct.
Repair Request in On-campus Housing:
A repair needed in a University residential facility can be reported to the resident’s community assistant or submit a work order via Asset Essentials.
Written Student Complaint:
To address and resolve concerns as quickly as possible, students are encouraged to address complaints to the office responsible for overseeing the area of concern. If resolution of the complaint cannot be accomplished using this protocol or established grievance or appeal procedures, the student can file a written student complaint using this form.
Campus Conduct Hotline:
The Campus Conduct Hotline is a confidential, independent, call-in service for reporting observed activity or behavior that is harmful, unethical, questionable, or causes personal injury (e.g., fraud, sexual harassment, discrimination, safety risk, internet abuse, workplace hostility). To use the Campus Conduct Hotline, call 866.943.5787.
- Clubs and Organizations: Numerous student clubs are available. Also, if you have a new interest, contact the Office of Campus Engagement for information about establishing a new organization.
- Community service opportunities on and off campus: Connect with your fellow Hornets and with the Lynchburg City community by contributing your time and talents to help others.
- Fine Arts: Take to the stage to act, dance, or sing. Join a music ensemble. Attend theatre productions and musical performances held regularly on campus. Be inspired by art exhibitions and student creations displayed in the Daura Museum of Art.
- Fitness: Work out with friends, take a fitness class, or challenge yourself at Turner Gym’s fitness center or Drysdale Student Center’s fitness center.
- Fraternities and Sororities: The varied fraternity and sorority chapters at Lynchburg support fellowship, scholarship, leadership, and service.
- Outdoor Recreation: Relax, get energized, challenge yourself, and enjoy the beauty of central Virginia and beyond through outdoor adventure trips such as canoeing, caving, climbing, backpacking, hiking, and whitewater rafting.
- Spiritual Life: Join spiritual life student groups and explore local houses of worship, which represent a broad range of faith traditions.
- Sports: Enjoy club sports, intramural sports, and intercollegiate athletics for competitors and Hornet fans alike
