Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Students
If you earn a qualifying associate degree from a Virginia Community College, you will be guaranteed admission and the general education requirements will be waived with the exception of foreign language and Senior Symposium. Required Courses for Transfer Students
University of Lynchburg students are required to complete general education requirements, major requirements, and enough minor and/or elective requirements to reach a minimum of 124 credit hours to graduate from the University.
University of Lynchburg DELL General Education Requirements
The following is a list of courses that must be taken as part of the general education requirements and will be useful to you in your academic preparation.

- The Core Curriculum – 12 credits
- Artistic and Creative Thinking – 3 credits
- Ethics or Civic Engagement – 3 credits
- Historical Interpretation – 3 credits
- Language and Intercultural Competence (2 sequential courses required) – 6 credits
- Quantitative Reasoning – 3 credits
- Literary Analysis – 3 credits
- Living Well – 2 credits
- Scientific Literacy – 4 credits
- Social Science Literacy – 3 credits
Credit Evaluations
Unofficial credit evaluations are available upon request with the Office of Admissions. You will need to provide an unofficial copy of your transcript in order for our transfer coordinator to evaluate your courses.
The Office of the Registrar will complete an official credit evaluation after you are admitted. You should receive this evaluation within 2 weeks of your acceptance. Upon completion of all coursework in progress, please request to have your final transcript(s) mailed to University of Lynchburg so that we may update your credit evaluation.
Students must earn a grade of a “C” or higher in a course in order to transfer the credits to University of Lynchburg. A grade of “C-” will not transfer. A maximum of 76 credit hours may be transferred to University of Lynchburg and a minimum of 48 credit hours must be completed at University of Lynchburg. You must complete 50% of the major requirements, 50% of the minor requirements, and your senior year at University of Lynchburg.
Classification of Students
Once the transfer credit evaluation is complete, your classification will be determined by the number of transferrable credits. The number of semesters completed at previous institutions does not determine your class standing.
- Freshman: 0-24 transferable credit hours
- Sophomore: 25-55 transferable credit hours
- Junior: 56-76 transferable credit hours
