High school students are invited to visit the University of Lynchburg on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11, for two days of adventure, campus tours, and information sessions. Students living outside a 60-mile radius who’ve applied and been admitted to Lynchburg will receive a hotel voucher for the one-night stay.
“We’re so excited to welcome prospective students for this open house weekend,” Admissions Director Maggie Flynn ’16, ’22 MA said. “We have a ton of fun activities planned, so students can really get to know the University of Lynchburg and find out if we’re a good fit for them.”
Discovery Weekend kicks off at 11 a.m. on Friday with the option for attendees to sit in on a class, followed by free lunch in the dining hall at noon. There’s another opportunity to take a class at 1 p.m.
Students can choose from a variety of programs, including business, communications, education, environmental science, exercise physiology, political science, psychology, and theatre. A few classes in the Westover Honors College also are available.
From 2-4 p.m., students may join one of several activities, such as a bubble ball tournament, a tour of the Cadaver Lab and Anatomage Table, or a tour of Historic Sandusky.
While students are getting a taste of life as a Hornet, parents are invited to take an optional campus tour, meet with admissions and financial aid counselors, and hear from upper-level administration on everything students gain from a Lynchburg education.
Friday afternoon wraps with the University’s International Food Festival from 5-7 p.m. on the Dell. The event will feature dishes from many of the 34 countries Lynchburg students call home. Optional meal tickets for the dining hall also are available.
From 6:30-8:30 p.m., students are invited to Claytor Nature Center for a bonfire, s’mores, and stargazing at the Belk Observatory. Snacks and transportation are provided. A women’s basketball game will kick off at 6 p.m. in Turner Gymnasium, and visitors are welcome to cheer on the Hornets as they take on the Bob Jones Bruins.
Saturday open house activities start with check-in at 9 a.m. in Schewel Hall, followed by a welcome and info session at 9:15 a.m.
A one-hour campus tour at 10 a.m. will hit all the highlights — from academic and athletic facilities to residence halls and the Dell. Located in the heart of campus, the Dell is a sprawling, tree-covered green space featuring the University’s popular LOVE sculpture and about 50 red Adirondack chairs for lounging and studying.
At 11 a.m., families are invited to a financial aid session back in Schewel Hall before heading over to Drysdale Student Center for the Academic and Student Life Fair and free lunch in the dining hall.
During the fair, families will have an opportunity to meet faculty and staff from various programs and departments. From noon to 1:30 p.m., admissions counselors are available for optional one-on-one meetings before families head home.
